[2012부산모터쇼] 몬스터 데칼로 개성있게! 닛산 콜라보레이션 큐브

지난해 출시되어 5개월만에 2,000대 이상 팔리며 박스카 돌풍을 몰고 온 큐브가 알록달록 화려한 옷을 입고 있죠. 줄무늬에 얼굴(?)도 그려져 있고 이빨자국에 침도 흘리고 있습니다. 금테 두르고 있기도 하구요.
바로 이 색다른 큐브가 한국 닛산이 디자이너 그룹 스티키 몬스터 랩(Sticky Monster Lab)과 함께 진행한 '콜라보레이션 큐브(Collaboration CUBE)'입니다.
스티키 몬스터 랩은 나이키 러너스 몬스터, CJ ONE카드와 대우건설 정대우 CF 등으로 유명한 창작집단입니다. 디자이너 최림 등 그래픽 디자인에서 시작하여 피규어 아티스트인 강인애 등이 합류하면서 피규어까지 더욱 다양한 장르에서 크리에이티브를 전개하고 있습니다. 단편 애니메이션인 'the LONER'는 ‘크리에이터 프로젝트(The Creators Project)’에서 ‘2011 베스트 애니메이션/모션 그래픽 부문’에 선정되는 등 해외에서도 그 실력을 인정받고 있습니다. 스티키 몬스터 랩은 모르더라도 이들이 만들어낸 캐릭터나 영상을 보면 '아... 이거!' 하실겁니다.
이 스티키 몬스터 랩이 올해 자신들의 주요 컬러인 '골드'와 대표적인 캐릭터 '몬스터'로 콜라보레이션 큐브를 선보였습니다.
이 '콜라보레이션 큐브' 는 모터쇼를 위한 콘셉트카의 성격이 강하지만 같은 형태의 '데칼'은 실제로 판매되는 것입니다.
닛산은 스티키 몬스터 랩과 함께 만든 각기 다른 디자인과 컬러의 6가지 '콜라보레이션 큐브 데칼'을 출시했습니다. 외장 데칼은 물론 키홀더와 파우치 등으로 구성된 콜라보레이션 큐브 데칼은 5월 24일부터 1년간 전국 닛산 매장에서 예약 판매되며 공임비를 제외한 판매 가격은 55만원입니다. 구매 후 데칼 작업은 해당 지역 딜러를 통해 진행하게 되죠.
큐브를 선택하는 고객들이 실용성과 개성을 중시하는 젊은층, 그리고 여성이라는 사실을 감안하면 데칼을 통한 '나만의 큐브만들기'는 괜찮은 선택으로 보입니다. 전문지식과 비용이 많이 투입되는 하드웨어적인 튜닝이 아니라 데칼로 부담없이 '꾸미는' 수준이라면 구매시 충분히 고려해볼만 하겠죠.
이름을 '콜라보레이션 큐브'로 광범위하게 지은 것을 보면 향후 '일종의 트림으로 가져갈 계획이 있는 것은 아닐까?'란 예상도 하게 됩니다. '제네시스 프라다', '구찌 에디션' 등과 같이 콜라보레이션 파트너의 이름이 아닌 '콜라보레이션 큐브'라는 작업 형태만으로 이름을 지었으니까요. 스티키 몬스터 랩 이외의 다른 창작 집단, 디자이너들과 지속적인 콜라보레이션을 진행하면 꽤 많은 선택의 가지수가 나올 수 있겠습니다. 기억을 되살려보니 올해 초 큐브 '발리 블루' 모델을 출시하면서 스티키 몬스터는 물론 쥬시 꾸뛰르(Juicy Couture) 등과의 콜라보레이션을 예고했었네요.
그러나 예상은 예상일 뿐일까요?
콜라보레이션 큐브를 가져다 놓기만 했지 정확한 모델에 대한 설명이나 판매방식 등의 정보 제공활동이 거의 없는 것을 보면 반대로 '모터쇼 언베일링용인가...'라는 생각도 하게 됩니다. 아시아 프리미어로 JX를 선보인 인피니티와는 달리 닛산은 이슈메이커 역할을 할 이렇다할 히어로 모델이 없기 때문이죠. 게다가 이미 주문예약을 시작했음에도 닛산 홈페이지나 큐브 마이크로 사이트에서 콜라보레이션 큐브에 대한 고지나 설명은 찾아볼 수 없습니다.
이유가 어찌되었건간에 스티키 몬스터 랩의 이니셜인 큐브 본닛의 SML을 보고 정확히 이해한 관람객이 몇 명이나 있을까 싶습니다. 판매되는 '제품'이 아니라 모터쇼 전시를 위해 꾸며놓은 '전시품'으로 생각하는 관람객이 대부분 아니었을까란 생각에 많이 아쉽습니다.
'콜라보레이션 큐브'가 켄지 나이토 한국닛산 사장의 말과 같이 '광범위해지는 소비자들의 개성과 취향에 부응하고, 소비자들의 라이프스타일 다각도로 지원'하기 위한 것인지는 향후 '콜라보레이션'을 큐브 마케팅에서 어떻게 활용하는지 지켜보면 알겠죠.
